Pivot3 Competitor SimpliVity Acquired By HPE For $650M

In an industry shift that might have big impact on Austin's Pivot3, one of the company's major competitors--SimpliVity--has just been acquired by computing giant Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). HPE said it would pay $650M for Massachusetts-based SimpliVity, which shares the converged infrastructure market with Pivot3 and Nutanix. Simplivity's systems--like Pivot3's--are used to converged compute, storage, and networking in a single system. SimpliVity, Nutanix, and Pivot3 were named as the top firms in the hyper-converged infrastructure market in a Forrester report a few months ago, in August of 2016.
