Xplore Debuts Rugged Android Tablet

Austin-based Xplore Technologies has long been known for its ruggedized tablets and PCs, which are used in the industrial, energy, manufacturing, public safety, and other industries. The company has just launched its first, Android-based product today, the company announced, the Xplore RangerX. According to Xplore, the new rugged tablet has MIL-STD ratings and can operate in extreme conditions and hazardous environments, including deployment in government and military operations. The company's tablet includes a 10.1 inch screen, Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI-In connections, and has a battery life of up to 10 hours. The waterproof and dustproof device doesn't come cheap; it starts at $1,349--but finding off-the-shelf Android tablets which can handle the environments Xplore's products are used in is impossible.
