United Devices Signs NTT

United Devices, a developer of automation software for data center environments, announced Thursday that Nippon Telephone and Telegraph West has tapped the firm for a grid computing application as part of its services. Nippon Telephone and Telegraph West, which provides telephone landlines and broadband Internet access to western Japan, will offer its business clients grid-based application services that allow companies to utilize the idle computer-processing power of NTT West's broadband customers. Those customers, United Devices will receive discounts to their bills proportional to their contributions. Grid computing is the use of distributed computer systems to process data and make complex calculations. United Devices is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
