TI Kicks Richardson Factory Into Gear, Looks To Hire 250

Texas Instruments said Tuesday that it is opening up a new manufacturing facility in Richardson, which will provide high volume production of 300-millimeter silicon wafers for analog chips. According to TI, it will start moving equipment into the facility in October, with plans for first chip shipments in 2010. TI said it has begun hiring for the facility, with plans for 250 jobs in the new RFAB facility. The firm said it expects the new plant to be able to ship more than $1 billion worth of analog chips per year. In explaining the move, the firm said that it decided to invest in opening the plant due to demand from the market for analog chips, particularly those used for making electronic product more energy efficient.
