Texas Wins SpaceX Launch Facility, Jobs

Space rocket developer SpaceX has selected Texas for a new, commercial rocket launch facility, after Gov. Rick Perry spearheaded an investment from the Texas Enterprise Fund to the company. SpaceX, which is the first, privately developed commercial rocket to successfully deliver payloads to space, will set up a commercial launch facility in Cameron County, according to Gov. Perry's office this afternoon. The Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) will invest $2.3M in SpaceX, in a deal that is expected to create 300 jobs and add $85M in capital investment into the local economy. $13 million from the Spaceport Trust Fund will be given to the Cameron County Spaceport Development Corp. to help develop the spaceport.
