Texas Venture Investments Up In Q4, Despite National Drop

Texas venture capital totals were up in Q4 of last year, according to the latest venture capital report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), based on data from Thomson Reuters. According to the report, which was released Friday night, Texas had $326.2M in 29 deals, up from $275.5M in investments in Q3. Texas was one of the few markets with increases in venture capital investments quarter to quarter.

Nationally, there was $5.4 billion invested in 818 deals in Q4, a 26 percent drop from $7.3 billion invested in Q4 of 2008. For the year, there was $28.3 billion invested in 3,808 deals--the frist yearly decline in venture capital totals since 2003.

The report corresponds with similar results from Dow Jones VentureSource, which were released earlier this week, which also showed Texas bucking the national trend.
