Texas Aims At Amazon.com Over Uncollected Sales Tax

The State of Texas has billed Amazon.com for $269M, which the state says the online retail giant owes it for uncollected sales taxes. According to Amazon.com's quarterly 10-Q report, it has been assessed the $269M for sales taxes for the period between December 2005 to December 2009, including interest and penalties. Amazon said it believes the state "did not provide a sufficient basis for its assessment" and that the assessment is "without merit." Texas has pointed at Amazon's distribution center in Irving for its tax assessment; however, Amazon claims the center is owned by a Amazon subsidiary, and isn't subject to taxation.
