Bumble Retreats From Facebook Logins

Austin-based women-first dating app developer Bumble said this morning that it will begin offering up an alternative way to join the popular service, which does not require users to be a member of Facebook. The app developer--which has required users to also be a member of Facebook to join the service since it started in 2014--said it will let users use an "alternative registration method" based on a user's cell phone number, instead of requiring Facebook. The move comes as users have been shying away from Facebook, after revelations that data from as many as 87 million users on the popular social networking service were siphoned off by Cambridge Analytica, to influence the U.S. Presidential election.
