Apple Invests $390M To Create 500 Jobs In Sherman, Texas

Apple said this morning that it is investing $390M to help optical communications components manufacturer Finisar expand its Sherman, Texas facility. According to Apple, the award will allow Finisar to "exponentially increase" its R&D spending on vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), which Apple says is used in Face ID, Animoji, and Portrait mode on its iPhone X. Apple said it expects that award to create 500 jobs in Sherman. Apple also said that one hundred percent of the VCSELs Apple buys from Finisar will be manufactured in Texas.
