Google Fiber Pauses Efforts In Dallas, San Antonio

In a move which puts Google's expansion of high speed fiber service to San Antonio and Dallas into doubt, Google said on Tuesday that it is "pausing" its efforts across the country, as it rethinks its deployment plans for the Gigabit Internet service. According to Google Fiber's outgoing CEO, Google is looking towards "new technology and deployment methods" and "refine" its ability to bring super-fast Internet to cities--and has "paused" efforts in potential cities and reducing its employees and offices focused on the effort. Google did not address Texas directly, however, it currently has San Antonio on its "upcoming" fiber deployment list, and Dallas as a "potential" fiber city. Google already provides high speed Internet access via fiber in Austin. Google had announced plans to expand to Dallas in June, and in August of 2015 had said it was laying out plans for Google Fiber in San Antonio.
