A driver working for ridesharing service RideAustin has been charged with sexual assault, according to the Austin Police Department. According to the APD, it booked Osmani Limonta Diaz, 40, into the Travis County Jail on Friday, with bail set at $40,000. The rape allegedly took place on June 10th in Central Austin. In a statement to media, RideAustin said the aafety of riders is "our number one priority" and said it immediately deactivated Dia from the RideAustin platform--and also informed "other rideshare platforms" that the driver was known to work for. RideAustin said it will "continue to do everything we can to fully support and cooperate" with the APD's investigation, saying that Dia had no previous history of criminal activity, and passed both fingerprint-based background checks, as well as social-security-based background checks.
