Research in Motion Chops Workers In Dallas

Research In Motion, the troubled maker of the BlackBerry smartphone, has chopped staff in Irving, according to a report. The Dallas Business Journal reported that as many as 200 staffers of its call center in the Irving locatio were cut in the move, part of a larger cut of about 5,000 people from the company. RIM has seen a rapid drop in its fortunes over the last couple of years, as widespread adoption of Android and Apple smartphones have eaten into its previously dominant position in the phone market. The Dallas Business Journal quoated a RIM spokesperson saying that the location is now closing.
