ShopSavvy Dodges Amazon Cloud Downtime

Dallas-based ShopSavvy, the mobile barcode scanning service run by Alexander Muse, has dodged a widely reported outage at Amazon.com's cloud computing service, Amazon EC2, the firm reported this morning. Muse, in a blog post, said the firm escaped the downtime being faced by a number of other firms, because it has its own set of infrastructure hosting its back end, in addition to using Amazon EC2. Sites such as Reddit, Quora, and Foursquare, the location-based check-in competitor to Austin's Gowalla, have all been affected by the downtime at Amazon. Amazon started seeing issues at 1:41 AM PDT at its Virginia data center.
