Rice University Researchers Eye High Temperature Battery Technology

Researchers at Houston-based Rice University are looking to develop new technology which may help make Lithium-ion batteries work better at high temperatures, according to the school on Wednesday. According to Rice University, Rice materials scientist Pulickel Ajayan and members of his lab recently published a paper that suggests ways on how to make Lithium-ion batteries work at a much wider range of temperatures, rather than the narrow range of temperatures near room temperature the batteries currently work at. According to Rice, its team built a comprehensive map of both standard and promising new materials in commercial batteries and detailed their typical energy densities and temperature ranges for each component. The work apparently may help suggest future advances in Lithium-ion battery development.
