Rackspace Backs CERN With Hybrid Cloud
San Antonio-based cloud hosting firm Rackspace Hosting said today that it is in a deal with research group CERN, to provide its hybrid cloud products to help CERN with its science mission. Rackspace said it will partner with CERN through CERN's openlab efforts, a framework to test and validate cutting-edge information technologies and services in partnership with industry at CERN. CERN is best known for its Large Hadron Collider (LHC) efforts, where it is working to uncover the basic details of matter and the universe. Financial details of the link were not announced. CERN is using OpenStack to manage two of its data centers, and to help collect more than 25 petabytes of data annually from its research.
