    Modern Message Gets $2M In Series A
    Dallas-based Modern Message, a developer of software which helps property management companies communicate and engage with apartment residents, has raised $2M in a Series A funding round, the company announced on Tuesday. The funding was led by AXA Strategic Ventures (ASV). According to the company, the funding will go towards growth efforts.     NetFortris Names Co-CEOs
    Dallas- and Seattle-based NetFortris, a provider of secure cloud communications service, said on Tuesday afternoon that it has named Kevin Dickens and Gene Carr as Co-CEOs of the company. Dickens had been Chief Operating Officer, and Carr had been Chief Financial Officer of the company. The company said current CEO Grant Evans remains on the company's board of directors.     GameStop Sells Kongregate To Modern Times Group
    San Francisco-based online social gaming site Kongregate, which is owned by Grapevine, Texas-based GameStop, announced today that it has been acquired by Modern Times Group (MTG), in a deal worth $55M.     BBVA Backs Internet Connectivity Pilot In Rio Grande Valley
    Banking provider BBVA Compass said this week that it is backing a pilot program to provide Internet access to 50 families in Pharr, Texas, as part of a pilot to help bridge the "digital divide" in the Rio Grande Valley.     Researchers Create New Desalination Technology
    Researchers at Rice University in Houston say they have created new technology which dramatically improves the ability to turn salt water into fresh drinking water, using only the sun. The university said that its new effort--created under a National Science Foundation project--uses engineered light-harvesting nanoparticles, embedded in a porous membrane, which use sunlight to generate steam, dramatically reducing the energy required in desalination.     Zenoss Wins New Customer
    Austin-based Zenoss has signed on a new customer, Epcom World Industries, the company said on Monday. Financial details of the win were not announced. Epcom is a provider of technology products and services for business, nonprofit, education and government. Zenoss is a provider of software used for monitoring cloud, virtual, and physical infrastructure.
