Navini, Fujitsu Show WiMAX Interoperability

Richardson, Texas-based Navini Networks, a provider of WiMAX hardware for deploying wireless networks, and Fujitsu Microelectronics said Friday morning that the two have demonstrated multi-vendor interoperability between their products. The two said that both Navini and Fujitsu showed support of Navini's Smart WiMAX technology, which the firm claims will double system capacity and coverage of WiMAX networks. The Smart WiMAX technology is a specific MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technique being promoted by Navini to increase speed in the WiMAX 802.16e standard. Navini is venture backed by Arcapita Ventures, Austin Ventures, Granite Ventures, Intel Capital, Lehman Brothers Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital and Sternhill Partners, and most recently raised $50M in May for its technology.
