Lockheed Martin, Rice University Announce Partnership

Defense contractor Lockheed Martin reported Monday that it has formed a strategic, technology-development partnership with Houston’s Rice University. Lockheed Martin said the partnership, called the Lockheed Martin Advanced Nanotechnology Center of Excellence at Rice University (LANCER, for short), will focus on carbon nanotechnology, photonics, plasmonics and other emerging technologies. Rice's Richard E. Smalley Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology will serve as the LANCER headquarters. Lockheed Martin said LANCER evolved from a series of technology exchange events between the Smalley Institute and company scientists. Lockheed Martin is headquartered in Bethesda, Md., and employs more than 140,000 people worldwide.
