ION Gets Permanent Injunction

Houston-based ION Geophysical Corporation said Thursday that it has been awarded a final judgement and permanent injunction against Sercel, in a patent infringement lawsuit. The firm said that the permanent injunction prohibits Sercel from making, using, offering to sell, selling, or importing in the United States digital sensors which were ruled to infringe on ION's patents. ION also was awarded $25.2M in compensatory past damages in the case, although that was lowered to a total of $10.7M by the courts. ION had sued Sercel over its patent, U.S. Patent No. 5,852,242, which is used in seismic acquisition systems for the oil and gas industry.
