Gowalla Hits Blackberry

Austin-based location-based social networking site Gowalla said this week that it has rolled out a new version of its app which works for the Blackberry smart phone. The firm said the first beta of the app includes such features as photos and commenting on locations, but does not yet include trips and items. Gowalla is backed by Greylock Partners, also included Shasta Ventures, Maples Investments, Ron Conway, Kevin Rose, Gary Vaynerchuck, Shervin Pishever, Jason Calacanis, Chris Sacca, Alsop-Louie Partners, and Founders Fund. The firm is a direct competitor to location based checkin firm Foursquare.
