Gowalla Gets New Competition, From Google

Austin-based location-based check-in firm Gowalla, already facing competition from such companies as Facebook and Foursquare, has yet another location based check-in service to face today: Google. Google said that it has added location based check-in capabilities to its Google Latitude application, starting on Google Maps 5.1 for Android. The search engine giant said the feature lets people add captions and photos to its service, which allows people to track the movement of their friends on Google Maps.
