Google Fiber Starts Signups In Austin

Google has opened up signups for its high speed Internet service, Google Fiber, in Austin, the company said Monday, as it plans to start rollout of the service throughout the city. Google said its super fast Internet service will offer up speeds that are up to 100 times faster than today's basic speeds. Google is initially rolling out the service for Austin residents int he South and Southeast areas of the city, and will charge $100 per month for the service; the company is initially targeting small businesses with the effort. As part of the launch, Google also said it has launched "Fiber Space", a demonstration site in downtown Austin on Colorado street, to demonstrate the service to Austin residents.
