GENBAND to Acquire Tekelec’s Switching Solutions Group

Plano, Texas-bsaed GENBAND Inc. will acquire Tekelec's switching solutions division, GENBAND announced Tuesday. Though the terms of the deal were not made public, GENBAND sources stated a definitive agreement had been signed, and that the company's total investment portfolio now exceeds $1 billion. The acquisition will expand GENBAND's infrastructure and applications portfolio for landline, wireless and cable service providers. Tekelec's switching solutions group includes three businesses Tekelec acquired in 2003 and 2004: Santera, VocalData and Taqua. Tekelec specializes in high-performance network applications that facilitate international service providers’ transition to IP multimedia subsystem networks. GENBAND supplies IP multimedia application and infrastructure products for various worldwide VoIP and IMS networks. GENBAND has R&D facilities in Austin, Plano, Shanghai, China, and New Delhi, India.
