Funds Available For Startups, Says Group

A regional chapter of a state-funded technology initiative reported Thursday that more than $80 million is still available as awards for technology-related startups and growth-stage companies based in the Lone Star State. According to the South Texas Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization, entrepreneurs and businesses within its 32-county coverage area should immediately apply for funding in order to gain consideration and beat the October deadline. To date, the STRCIC said, some $120 million of a possible $200 million of the Emerging Technology Fund has been doled out to selected startups and growth-stage businesses. The STRCIC is one of six regional agents for the Emerging Technology Fund, an initiative enacted by the Texas Legislature in 2005 to encourage the emergence and growth of technology-related companies throughout the state.
