Fort Worth Billionaire Investor Richard Rainwater Dies At 71

Richard E. Rainwater, a Fort Worth billionaire and investor who was instrumental in managing the Bass family fortune, and later left to found such companies as ENSCO International, Columbia Hospital Corporation, Mid Ocean Limited, and Crescent Real Estate Equities, died at the age of 71 in Fort Worth on Sunday. Rainwater died of complications due to the rare, degenerative brain disease called progressive supranuclear palsy. Rainwater was a co-owner of the Texas Rangers, and had been instrumental in the turnaround of Disney, and also helped TPG Capital's David Bonderman get his start, along others.
