Dell Shuts N.C. Plant, 905 Jobs Lost

Round Rock-based Dell said Wednesday that the firm is closing down its Winston-Salem, N.C., plant. According to the firm, it is shutting the computer manufacturing plant in order to simplify its operations and improve efficiency at the firm. The shutdown will result in the loss of 905 jobs at the location, including 600 who will be let go next month. Dell's Vice President, Public Business Unit Supply Chain, Frank Miller, said in a statement that "This is a difficult decision, especially for our North Carolina colleagues, but a necessary one for Dell customers and our company."
