Dell Cuts 1900 In Ireland

Round Rock-based Dell said this morning that it is cutting all of its manufacturing its operations in Ireland, which will result in the loss of about 1,900 employees over the next 12 months. According to Dell, the firm is migrating all of its manufacturing operations from Ireland to Poland by 2010. The firm said the move will help it simplify operations, improve productivity, and reduce costs. Dell said that the move affects all production of computer systems for its customers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The firm said it will also move some of that manufacturing to third party manufacturing partners. Dell will still maintain a Solutions Center in Limerick, along with sales, marketing, and support in Cherrywood, Dublin, the firm explained.
