Dell Announces New Cloud-Focused Hardware

Round Rock-based Dell announced new hardware focused on its cloud computing division Monday. According to Dell, its Data Center Solutions (DCS) division is rolling out a new system focused on high-density, x86 hyper-scale computing. The firm said the new hardware, the DX-23 II "Xanadu II" is a 2u, rack mount system with four, 2-socket servers and up to 24 rotating or solid state disk drives. The new hardware supports Intel's "Nehalem" Xeon family, and is designed to support configurations of up to 88 servers with 704 processing cores, and 396TB of storage in a single rack. The new system is targeted at customers in the cloud computing area.
