Clearwire Targets Texas For Wireless Service

Clearwire, which is developing wireless Internet service based on the WiMax wireless standard, announced today that it is targeting eight targets in Texas as part of a network expansion. According to Clearwire, it will launch its CLEAR 4G service in Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Killeen/Temple, Waco and Wichita Falls on September 1st. The firm, which is backed by major financing from Intel Capital, Comcast, Sprint, Google, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks, said the market is part of its next round of expansion for its high speed Internet access service. WIMAX is a next-generation wireless standard with significantly greater range than traditional Wi-Fi hotspots; CLEAR is looking to take advantage of the range of WIMAX (which is several miles) to more affordable deploy wireless Internet access.
