Caringo Hires Advanced Technology VP

Caringo Inc., a manufacturer of clustered CAS storage devices, reported Tuesday that it has hired Jan Van Riel as vice president of advanced technology. According to the Austin, Texas-based company, Van Riel co-invented content addressable storage technology years ago when he was working alongside Paul Carpentier, Caring'’s chief technology officer. Carpentier and Van Riel made the breakthrough when they were partners at FilePool, which they later sold to EMC. Van Riel would go on to serve eight years as EMC's director of technology, Caringo said. Carpentier and Van Riel also worked together at Wave Research and Gnosis/Technosis, Caringo added. Caringo's devices are used for content addressable storage, a data storage technique used for storing documents and persistent data.
