Austin Firms Seek Software Talent, Says Survey

A new survey released this morning by Door64, the local networking organization headed by Matt Genovese, finds that Austin companies are looking for people with experience in Java and other software technology, above all other skills. The survey--the first ever conducted by Door64--looked to identify the top technologies in demand by local high tech companies. The group said that the top four specific skills in demand in Austin are Java, User Interface / User Experience (UI/UX), Software Quality Assurance, and .NET skills, accounting for 40 percent of all hiring priorities among technology companies responding. Door64 said it received over 100 responses to its survey, which covered Q1 in 2012. Software represented 64 percen tof all needs, with IT coming in at 20%. Hardware and semiconductors, one of the area's longtime technology bases, represented 14 percent of demand for jobs. Door64 said it is applying the information gathered from its survey to an Austin Pain-point Job Fair it is holdin gin June, where it will line up candidates wit skills most in demand by local companies. Door64 is well known for its monthly Happy Hour events.
