AT&T Sees Surge In Wi-Fi Usage

Dallas-based AT&T said today that it is seeing an increasing number of its users connecting to its Wi-Fi services, triple the amount from Q3 of last year. AT&T said that it had 301.9 million connections made in third quarter of 2011, triple the number of connections in Q3 of 2010, up more than 282 percent. AT&T also reported that it now has more than 29,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots nationwide. AT&T--which had suffered some criticism of its data network in recent years--has been building out its network of Wi-Fi hotspots to help offload huge demand for data services on the carrier due to widespread adoption of Apple iPhone and Android smart phones.
