AT&T Plans New Work, Personal Device Modes

Dallas-based AT&T said today that it is getting set to launch a new app and service which will allow users to toggle between "work" and "personal" modes on their smartphones or tablets. According to At&T, the new AT&T Toggle service will allow for a distinct work mode, separate from the typical personal mode on a single smartphone or tablet. Pricing on the new service was not announced. AT&T said it expects to ship the service before the end of the year. AT&T said the new service will include a work mode, where access to corporate email, applications, calendars and other resources can be controlled by IT administrators, but where users can also toggle into a personal mode to text message, watch TV shows and movies, and play games. The new "work mode" also allows companies to remotely wipe corporate information on a device; manage what resources employees can access; update, add, or delete business apps on the device, and more.
