Ambiq Micro Gets Smartwatch Design Win

Austin-based Ambiq Micro, which is developing ultra-low power microprocessors for the embedded market, announced this morning that its processor has been selected for use in a smartwatch from Matrix Industries. According to Ambiq Micro, its Apollo MCU is being used as the main processor for the Matrix PowerWatch, a new smartwatch which never needs recharging. Ambiq said the watch uses body heat to harvest energy, enabled by the company's extremely low power consumption processor--which it says consumes less than half the energy of similar MCUs.
