Valence Batteries to Power Electric Motorcycle

Battery manufacturer Valence Technology Inc. revealed Thursday that its lithium phosphate batteries will power a new, all-electric motorcycle that hit the market earlier this year. The Austin, Texas-based company said the motorcycle, manufactured by Brammo Inc. and marketed under the brand name Enertia, was designed for urban commutes. The Enertia, Valence noted, weighs 280 pounds but can top 50 miles per hour and cover 45 miles on a single three-hour charge. Valence develops Lithium-ion phosphate rechargeable batteries. Founded in 1989, Valence maintains facilities in Nevada, China and Northern Ireland. Established in 2002, Brammo is a privately held company headquartered in Ashland, Oregon.
