Texas Venture Investments Rise In Q3, To $239M

Venture capital investments in Texas rose in Q3, according to the latest numbers from the PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA MoneyTree report, based on data from Thomson Reuters. According to the report, there were 35 venture capital deals in Texas in Q3, worth a total of $239.224M, up both from Q2 of this year, when $183.7M was invested in the state, as well as Q3 of last year, when $142.5M was invested in Texas. Texas also had one of the biggest deals, nationwide, in Q3, with the investment of $65M in Irving, Texas-based Medsynergies, in a deal with FTV Capital.

Nationally, venture capital was up overall nationwide, with $7.8 billion invested across 1,005 deals, a 12 percent rise in terms of dollars from last quarter, and an uptick of 5 percent in the number of deals. The industry with the most investment was Software, which saw $3.6 billion in investments in the quarter, followed by Biotechnology, with $852M, and then Medical Devices, with $566M invested in the quarter nationally.
