Texas Venture Capital Rises To $259.24M in Q1

Investments in Texas companies by venture capital firms was up in Q1 of the year, rising to $259.24M, according to the latest MoneyTree report from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), based on data provided by Thomson Reuters. The report, released this evening, showed 30 deals in the quarter. The amount raised was up from both Q1 of 2010, when $183.0M was invested in the region, and Q4 of 2010, when $194.16M was invested in the state.

Nationally, venture capital investment up slightly, at $5.9 billion in 736 deals in the first quarter vs. $5.6 billion a year ago. Although dollars were up, the number of deals (736 nationally in Q1 vs. 827 deals last year) was the lowest in a single quarter since Q3 of 2009. Texas bucked the trend, rising from 25 deals last year to 30 deals in Q1.
