TI Scientist Gets Oscar

Dallas-based Texas Instruments reports that one of its scientists, Larry J. Hornbeck, has won an Oscar, for his invention of the DLP chip. TI said that Hornbeck received an Academy Award of Merit for his contribution to revolutionizing how motion pictures are created, distributed and viewed. Hornbeck's invention--and TI chips--are used in digital projection of movies noto the big screen. TI said Hornbeck began working on what is now the DLP chip back in 1977, in working on "deformable mirrors" for light projection. The technology ultimately was refined into the technology behind the DLP chip in 1987.
