THQ Cuts 79 At Austin's Vigil Games

Videogame developer THQ has cut 79 employees in Austin, the firm said Thursday afternoon, as part of a larger cut of 114 employees at the company. THQ said it has reduced 79 full time employees at Vigil Games in Austin, as well as 39 employees at Relic Entertainment in Vancouver, B.C., after it decided to shift development efforts of its Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium title. THQ said it is no longer making the game a massively multiplayer online game (MMO), instead turning it into an "immersive" single player and online "multiplayer experience". The firm said move was due to the large investment required to make the title an MMO. Vigil Games is the center of THQ's Warhammer and Darksiders efforts.
