SoftLayer Powers Effort To Find Cure For Ebola

Dallas-based SoftLayer, the cloud computing arm of IBM, is powering a new effort to let any PC or Android mobile phone user help find a cure for Ebola. According to IBM, it is powering a new "virtual supercomputer" effort for the Scripps Research Institute, which seeks to tap the idle computers of volunteers across the globe for drug screening efforts aimed at identifying possible cures for Ebola. IBM said the effort is powered by SoftLayer's cloud computing infrastructure. The new effort--part of IBM's World Community Grid--lets user donate unused computer time to help power supercomputing tasks at the Scripps Research Institute, a well known biomedical research institution. The groups are looking for users who are willing to donate computing power from their PC and Android mobile devices for that "virtual supercomputer".
