SURGE Accelerator Makes Last Push For Applications

The Houston-based SURGE Accelerator, the energy-focused, business accelerator looking to apply the popular business acceleration model pioneered by YCombinator and TechStars to the energy software market, is making a last push for applicants, saying that Monday is the last day for applications to its 2012 program. The accelerator said it has already received over 400 prospects for the acceleration program, including many international applications. SURGE said, in addition to U.S. companies, it has received applications from Greece, India, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, and the UK. SURGE is offering up $30,000 in cash and more than $20,000 in in-kind partner services to finalists in its 12-week mentoring program, geared at energy industry firms in the areas of smart grid, energy trading, digital oilfield, energy efficiency and regulatory compliance. SURGE is managed by Kirk Coburn.
