RetailMeNot: Sorry, Dad Gets Less Gifts Than Mom

Sorry, dad. Austin-based online coupon site RetailMeNot has run another of its consumer surveys, and confirmed what many fathers have suspected all along: people buy far fewer gifts for Dad on Father's Day than they do for Mom on Mother's Day. According to RetailMeNot, the survey--run for the company by the Omnibus Company--found that more people buy Mother's Day gifts for mom than Father's Day gifts for dad, with 86 percent of people buying gifts for their mothers, versus only 77 percent for dads. Not only do fewer people actually buy a gift for dad, RetailMeNot's survey said that almost half (48%) of the consumers it surveyed also said they spend more on Mother's Day gifts than on Father's day gifts. What to get Dad this holiday? RetailMeNot said the top items on the list for fathers are gift cards (17%) and quality time spent with family (17%). RetailMeNot said its survey was conducted among 1,009 U.S. residents ages 18 and over earlier this year.
