Report: Texas Ranks Second In High Tech Jobs

Texas has maintained its claim as the nation's second-largest technology employer, according to an annual report by the AeA, the technology trade group formerly known as the American Electronics Association. The AeA's "Cyberstates 2008" report noted that the Lone Star State's high-tech industry added 13,700 jobs for an industry total of 459,500 jobs in 2006—the most current data available. Texas trails only California in that regard; New York is third. The report also stated that Texas’ high-tech industry paid out some $37.5 billion in payroll in 2006, which calculates to an average annual wage of $81,600—88 percent more than the average private sector wage.
