Rackspace Launches Private Cloud Service

San Antonio-based Rackspace, the provider of managed and cloud hosting services, said Monday that it has launched a new, private cloud computing service. Rackspace said its new Rackspace Cloud: Private Edition, allows enterprises to deploy their own, private OpenStack-powered private clouds. Rackspace said it will help enterprises run their own private clouds in production through the new offering. OpenStack is a version of Rackspace's own cloud computing software, which it has made available through open source. Rackspace is tapping a network of partners who its says have been certified on the reference architecture for the new private cloud service; that reference design uses Cisco and Dell equipment as part of its private cloud template. Pricing on the service was not announced.
