Rackspace Debuts New Cloud Services

San Antonio-based hosting provider Rackspace announced this morning that it has enhanced its service offerings for cloud platform customers using OpenStack. The firm said it has launched new, managed services for users, including capacity planning, scaling architecture, configuration, patching, monitoring, security guidance, database tuning and optimization, troubleshooting for infrastructure and certain operating systems, database engines and application platforms. Rackspace has been ramping up its services for OpenStack, an industry effort which was based on technology originally developed by Rackspace to operate its own cloud services. Rackspace made that technology open source, as part of an effort to gain wider acceptance and adoption of cloud technology, in the form of OpenStack. That move has helped Rackspace to gain more equal footing against giant Amazon Web Services, as multiple ISPs and software firms have adopted OpenStack as their own standard.
