RackSpace Expands OpenStack Cloud Services

San Antonio-based cloud hosting services firm Rackspace is expanding its collection o cloud based services this morning, saying that it has opened up access to its Cloud Databases and Cloud Servers powered by OpenStack. Rackspace said the move will allow customers to run private, public, or hybrid clouds, deployed either at Rackspace, or another data center provider. OpenStack--which is based on Rackspace's cloud hosting codebase--is now an open source project, which allows any data center provider to implement cloud computing. That stack of software is designed so that users can migrate their cloud projects--or run extra instances--across not just one single vendor. Rackspace's Cloud Database service is geared towards MySQL users, and is also based on OpenStack. Rackspace has been in limited availability of its OpenStack-based services since May.
