OpenKey Upgrades Mobile App

Dallas-based OpenKey, which is developing interoperable, digital "key" software to open hotel rooms, said it has rolled out a major new upgrade to its mobile app. The company said the upgraded OpenKey App Version 3.0 software includes such new features as driving directions to hotels, estimated-time-of-arrival (ETA) information for hotels, mobile check in, and more. The app already has been offering up delivery of a "digital room key" as part of check in to let users open up the door to their rooms using just their smartphone. OpenKey is backed by a consortium of hotel management and hotel owners, who are attempting to create a standard way to manage digital room keys.
