Microtune Targets Digital TV Conversion Market

Plano-based Microtune said Thursday that the firm has inked a deal with a fellow hardware manufacturer for products targeting the U.S. government's conversion of analog TV signals to a new digital format. The firm said that it is working with Auvitek International, and is showing a solution which combines chips from the two companies for manufacturers targeting ths U.S. government's DTV converter box program. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) recently launched a coupon program to provide discounts on digital TV converter boxes. The U.S. is looking to convert all television signals from analog to digital format in 2009. Microtune is a manufacturer of a digital TV tuner chip; Auvitek provides demodulation and channel decoding chips.
