MediaFire Links Desktops With Cloud Media Storage

Houston-based MediaFire, the developer of an online storage and collaboration service, is taking on media sharing in the cloud via a new desktop app for both OSX and Windows. According to the company--which is led by Derek Labian--it has launched MediaFire Desktop into beta, letting users upload, collaborate, and share their media in the cloud directly from their desktop. The app is in beta, and is free. MediaFire said the service gives users up to 50GB of free storage for their media files. The new expansion lets users directly synchronize and move their data to the cloud from the OSX Finder and Windows Explorers. Those kind of integration services have made other, online storage services--particularly Dropbox--very popular with consumers.
