IBM Starts Digesting SoftLayer, Launches Cloud Products

IBM is showing off the first products it gained from its acquisition of SoftLayer earlier this year, announcing a new set of solutions to help clients and managed service providers (MSPs) build private and hybrid clouds. IBM--which paid around $2 billion for Dallas-based SoftLayer--said it has launched a new set of offers specifically aimed at helping clients quickly deploy their own cloud services. IBM is using SoftLayer's technology to build both hybrid and private clouds, the cloud-based computing systems which use either a combination of public and in-house private cloud infrastructure, or use just in-house equipment to launch cloud-based systems. IBM used its acquisition of SoftLayer in June to help kick off the launch of its own, cloud services division.
